Neuropsychological & Psychological Assessments
We offer testing services for children as young as 18 months of age through young adults. Tests are designed to assess specific problems such as symptoms related to ADHD, learning disabilities, emotional or behavioral problems, social difficulties, or developmental delays. The number of hours required for testing can vary according to the presenting problem and the age of the child. The tests help determine the child’s emotional status, how the child processes different kinds of information, academic functioning, social abilities and the nature of a child’s problem-solving skills. As Rush is a teaching hospital, qualified doctoral-level externs are involved in a portion of the evaluation under the direct supervision of a licensed psychologist.

Virtual Developmental Assessments
We are proud to offer virtual developmental assessments for children 4 and under. During this assessment process, caregivers who are concerned over their child’s development will meet virtually with a neuropsychologist over the course of two to three virtual sessions. During this time, the clinician will complete a comprehensive developmental interview and guide you through a standardized, virtual assessment via video observation. Similar to the in-person assessments, following the testing appointments, the clinician will set up a feedback session to discuss the results of the evaluation and discuss recommendations for next steps.

Speech and Language Assessments
We offer testing services for children as young as 18 months old through young adults. Testing is designed to assess for specific problems such as symptoms related to communication disorders including difficulties with oral-motor movement and articulation, language challenges such as delays in receptive or expressive language development, social pragmatics, struggles with reading, and stuttering. The number of hours required for testing varies according to the presenting problem and the age of the child. The tests help determine the child’s communication abilities. This assessment can be completed independently by the speech language pathologist or as a part of a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment in conjunction with the neuropsychologist.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Assessments
We are proud to offer a social-emotional learning (SEL) assessment service for children who struggle to make and keep friends, who are not accepted by peers, or who have a difficult time interacting effectively. The purpose of the assessment service is to help children and their parents understand more specifically their social strengths and weaknesses, and to develop a plan to address each child’s unique needs.
Candidates for an SEL assessment include children between 6 and 14 who have completed a comprehensive psychological or neuropsychological assessment within the past year, and who experience significant social difficulties that have not been clearly explained by prior assessments.

Our Report to You
After gathering the necessary information, we analyze it to determine the child’s neurobehavioral strengths and weaknesses. Having arrived at a diagnosis, we create an individualized treatment plan consisting of the interventions that will build on the child’s strengths to help them overcome their social, emotional, behavioral and academic challenges.
The report is then shared with the parents and (when appropriate) the child’s school or doctor. A feedback for the client is done when age appropriate.
